Is CBCS Hurting Your Credit Scores?
CBCS is an aggressive collection agency that can harass you constantly and adversely impact your credit score.
If you have had the misfortune of dealing with CBCS, there are several things you can do to get them off your back and get your credit score on the road to recovery.
Have You Been Getting Calls From CBCS?
If CBCS collection agency has been calling you, don’t panic. Remember, they are calling you and you don’t know who they are. Make sure they can provide details for the bills you owe and the account information is correct.

Collection agencies are after your money however they can get it, so make sure you put the burden of proof upon them to show you actually owe what they say you owe. Many times their information is wrong and they try to collect on accounts that do not exist, or accounts that have been paid in full.
Validate the Debt First
If you think CBCS is off-base by trying to collect from you, the first thing you should do when dealing with CBCS collections is to ask them for a validation letter. In addition to the validation letter, you may also consider sending them a cease and desist letter, or filing a complaint against them with your state’s attorney general office or the FTC.
Try to Make a Deal
If CBCS is able to show you that your debt is valid, try to get them to make some concessions before you pay them. Again, they just want your money, and to them, some money is better than no money.
Ask them if they will accept payment of a lower amount to settle the account. Also, ask them to remove any negative items that have already been reported to credit bureaus before you pay them – sometimes they will agree to this. Whatever they may agree to do, be sure to get it in writing!
Removing CBCS From Your Credit Report
Eventually, the nightmare of dealing with CBCS will end, but your credit score may continue to suffer because of them. If this is the case, you can file a dispute with the big three credit reporting agencies to get the negative items removed.
Even if the items are valid, when you file a dispute you are putting the burden on CBCS to prove that their reporting is accurate. Often, they don’t even make an effort to respond, or else can’t find sufficient proof, so the negative items are removed from your credit report.

Falling Into Bad Credit
A few years back I lost my job due to the downturn in the economy. I couldn’t pay my bills and started racking up credit card debt. When I couldn’t make the minimum payments on my credit cards any longer, I started getting calls from collection agencies like CBCS Collections. I eventually filed for bankruptcy to have my debt relieved, but the process did a lot of damage to my credit.
Lexington Law Saved the Day
For several years I couldn’t get into a new home or buy a new car because my credit was poor. It was a very frustrating time for me. I told my story to a friend of mine who suggested I give Lexington Law a try. He said they had been very helpful to him in the past. I was skeptical but decided to try them out.
Lexington Law Changed My Life
After doing some research online, I called Lexington Law at (800) 220-0084. (You can visit their website here.) I spoke with a credit repair professional who was kind and compassionate. I told her about my situation and she told me about my options.
I decided to sign up right there on the spot – and man, I’m happy I did! It only took a few weeks before I could see the results. I started getting random letters in the mail saying that negative items had been removed from my credit report.
Life Got Better
Once Lexington Law helped get some of the negative items off of my credit report, I saw my credit scores were improving steadily. It didn’t take long before I qualified for a loan and purchased a home. The whole process of repairing my credit would have taken much, much longer had it not been for Lexington Law. I’m just grateful I called them when I did to get the help I needed (see below).
