Letter 4 (Send to the Bank that reported you to ChexSystems, in addition to sending Letter 1)

In addition to mailing dispute letters to ChexSystems, you also have the right to dispute the negative listing directly with the bank that listed the negative item. Doing so may give you faster results than simply disputing with ChexSystems alone, particularly in the case of older items and accounts that were transferred from one bank to another.

Below is a template you can use when drafting your letter to the bank. Please note that this template is provided for resource purposes only, and is not legal advice.

This letter is in regards to the account number listed above which you claim has {specific negative condition}. I hereby notify you that your claim is disputed, and I am requesting complete validation per the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.

Please note that I require full validation under the law, to include copies of completed and signed documentation indicating that I have a contractual obligation to pay you, or had such an obligation to pay in the past.

The letter also serves as your notification that I am disputing this alleged {specific negative condition} with all credit bureaus where it has been listed. Per the Fair Credit Reporting Act, any debt which cannot be properly validated may not be reported to any credit bureau.

Your failure to remove inaccurate information from my credit files will be documented as a violation of the Fair Credit Reporting Act for the sole purpose of pursuing legal relief under current consumer laws.
