Default Wow! 687!!!!

I found this forum in December. At that time, my scores were in the 490's. Although I desperately wanted to buy a house, I knew that this goal was very distant in my future.

I began to follow the advice found here. I disputed negatives and had a friend and my father add me as authorized users on 2 cards that were low utilization/high balance. I continued to make timely payments on my installment loan.

Today, I decided to have a lender pull my scores. I was hoping for a mid-score of 620 so I could apply for a USDA mortgage. Imagine my surprise when I was told that my midscore is 687!! You could have knocked me over with a feather!!!!

Honestly, I owe this success to all of the supporters on this forum. Thank you to everyone for answering my questions and providing support when I needed it. I am going "house shopping" tomorrow!!!

Thanks again!!!

Kristi

Thumbs up

Thank you!

As an update: I'm currently under contract on a fantastic 4 bedroom brick home. I hope to close in less than 2 weeks. Appraisal went well and the lender has all my documentation. My file goes to underwriting next week!

I haven't been to this site for a while and wanted to post an update. I have been in my new home for over a year now. I closed in October of 2010.

As a "thank you" to those of you who helped me so much, I have been able to assist others in their credit repair ventures, based on the information learned here.

Thanks again!!

P.S. - I'm finally in the "700 Club".

Thanks for giving the rest of us hope. I have a couple questions for you if you don't mind answering.

Did you have to have all bad debts paid off to get your home loan or were they able to work with you? I have had several people tell me that if you have a couple bad debts that were not excessive amounts of money that some lenders will still approve a mortgage as long as you have something in writing agreeing to pay the bad debt via payment plan or by having the debt added to the mortgage.

I was required to pay them prior to my file being sent to underwriting. I had to provide proof if payment.
