us too - we need a re-finance. since our mortgage is not permanent - only a bank loan. confusing, but we have to get it all taken care of asap within the next month. however, good credit is vital these days.

That it is. I just get nervous because my husband wants to buy a different truck and I don't want to hurt my scores any more than possible before we apply for a house loan....

Also, isn't it sort of a staple that you don't apply for new credit while you are disputing things?

You don't want to buy anything major if you are going to be applying for a home loan. It will show that you're deeper in debt and your income to debt ratio will go up........making you a higher risk in the lender's eyes.

Tell your husband this.....see if you can wait until AFTER you get a home loan.

I don't see how they can avoid it unless they get concessions from the unions and i don't know if they will.Your a union family and if would save jobs and make the company viable i would've taken less in a heartbeat. You might try your bank or credit union but there are some others out there.

Our bank doesn't offer them

I've heard Bank of America has good ones. I think I'm going to try applying for one of those.

I agree with the above. Wait til you get a home loan first. I'm in the same boat, I'd actually like a different vehicle, but I have to wait. I, too am worried because we are taking out credit (home depot) etc. to finish house - yet, that is one of our guidelines before refinance to finish home. So, we'll see - not sure if it will hurt or help us, but either way, we need to finish our new home.

For a secured card - I heard Orchard Bank is good. Actually I think that is what I used years ago. Now I have one through our local banks and regular c.cards as well.

Another thought, First Premier I think is a good one too. Actually for both secured and unsecured. Or maybe even try Home Depot or Target or something if you are trying to establish more credit / responsibility - right?
