Default Nelnet Student Loan in Collections

Hi,
I need a little clarity with the TL below:

Company/Account Name: COLORADO STUDENT LOA
Company Address/Phone: 999 18th St
Denver, CO 802022499
(303) 294-8620
Account Number: 350767425708271XXXX
Date Opened: N/A
Last Activity: N/A
First Delinquency: 10/2008
Type: Installment
Rate/Status: COLLECTION ACCOUNT
High Credit: $28,814
Terms: N/A
Balance: $31,200
Past Due: n/a
Most Recent Date Reported: 05/2010
Comments on Account: Collection account

So I tried to contact this company to find out the details of this account because I am currently in a rehab program with Sallie Mae, so I was kind of surprised by this account. The phone # is inactive so I did a google search and it appears to be a subsidiary of Nelnet. There are quite a few TL's from Nelnet on my credit report showing "Paid as Agreed", so I'm kind of confused why this TL shows me in collections. So my question is:

How do I dispute this? Should I send a DV letter to CA on the above TL requesting proof?

I don't want to call Nelnet and jump start anything before I know what my options are.

Another question: Once a student loan account as been closed and sold to another bank, can you try to remove the old/closed acct if negative? I ask because I know student loans are very hard to get off.

Thanks for your help!!!!

No, you dispute it with the CRAs, no the CAs. You're sending letters to the credit bureaus aka credit reporting agencies (CRA).
