Default Being sued, Can't find anything on it

My inlaws got a call saying that they had to talk to me to go to court for some debt. I called the number and they said it was an account that I stopped paying in 2006. They said I had the account for about five years and then I stopped paying, don't remember doing any of that, anyways first off the statute of limitations for California on a written agreement is 4 years so does that mean they can not take this to court? There is nothing on my credit report on this debt or anywhere that I could find. The collection agency said that they had sent notices to an address in California an dKentucky, the address in california i never lived there, it was my uncle's. I had never set foot in kentucky so i have no clue what how they got that address.

The collection agency said to call the original creditor but I am afraid they would try to do something to try to get money.

Should I do anything?

Thank you
