Default State Tax Lien

I have a State Tax Lien from Ohio on my credit filed 2007 from Tax Year 2004. I have subsequently moved to Texas and disputed the unpaid lien as "not mine" to Equifax and Experian bureaus. It was never on TU. Anyway, went to apply for mortgage and it showed up on my wife's credit (EQ and EX only). Do you think she has a good shot doing the same dispute? Once it is disputed off, does it stay off? Can it show up during underwriting? I am not totally averse to paying it but the amount of the lien seems a lot higher than I recall from back then.

Yes, she has a good shot, especially if you were able to do it. If it gets removed from both reports it will not show up in underwriting.

I wouldn't dispute "not mine" if it is yours. There is no need to lie. Just tell them that you would like to dispute it. You don't have to give them a reason, the burden of proof is on them.

I am a bit confused. Is the tax lien legitimate or not? You seem to acknowledge knowing about it "back then."

How can you now dispute it as "not yours?"

You do have a responsibility to provide supporting information for any dispute. You cant just make a broad allegation that you "dispute" in some non-explicit manner, and shift the burden to them to guess at what you dispute, and why it was inaccurate. Disputes of this nature can be summarily dismissed by them, without any investigation requirement, as being "frivolous or irrelevant."
