I have several Federal (IRS) tax liens. After speaking with the IRS I was told that they all had a statute of limitations of ten years. The IRS said that they will take no steps to remove liens that have expired, but then told me what to do: I went to the county courthouses where these liens had been originally filed and obtained copies of the liens. About a third of the way down there is a bold rectangular box which states: Quote:

I do not have any first hand experience with tax liens.......but from what I have read Wide is correct in that tax liens will stay on your report for 10 years (and I believe that is from the date it was paid off). I'm also wondering if how he's talking about disputing them will actually remove them?........or will they now be reported as released? Not sure. What I have seen is that a tax lien should be disputed like other public records. You can use the Guide To Disputing/Removing Judgments thread as a guideline..

I had a Tax Lien on my CR with TU, EX, & EQ from 2004 and was paid off in 2006. TU & EX shows being paid but EQ shows still being owed. I did find the Tax Lien is filed thru the county clerk/register of deeds. I sent them a letter asking them their procedure on verifying information which is reported by you to the credit bureaus. I received from the county clerk/register of deeds stating " Register of Deeds is recording agency only and does not report information to any party. If a particular credit reporting agency has entered a negative item on your credit report then the credit reporting agency accessed our public records to obtain the information." Written by Chief Deputy Register Right now I have letters out to the three CRA's to if they verify and how. |
