Default can i be sued for paying less than the min. due?

I was in an apartment complex for 8+ years and had to break my lease early. I was given the option of subletting the apartment or buying out my lease for over $2000. i attempted to sublet but the apartment complex management seemed to go out of there way to sabotage every effort.

(for example a current tenant in another apartment who's lease was up the same month i was looking to sublet was told that he would have to pay a security deposit and a 'relocation' fee if he moved from his 2 bedroom into my 3 bedroom. He was also offered teh opportunity to pay his rent month to month for 3 additional months and move into another apartment with no security deposit and no relocation fee).

anyway, long story short i had to do the buy out and had to sign an agreement that i would pay $150 per month with the agreement that the $2000 would be paid off within 12 months. I was told verbally that if i could not pay $150 they would work with me. I lost my job 14 months ago and i have no unemployment benefits. I began making payments on teh date that they requested which was last month. I paid $100 because that was all that i could afford. I will not be able to pay $150 every month but i should definately be able to at least give them something. My most recnet bill from them said "please begin making payments of $150 to avoid further legal action".

My question is - if i continue to make payments and show a good faith effort to settle the debt. Can they sue me for not making payments of $150? especially since they told me that i would have 12 months to pay it off?

i have vrey good credit and being unemployed has been very stressful.
any advice would be appreciated.

If you talk to them and explain that you have been unemployed and your trying hard to pay the debt as the company will want as much money off you as possible than waste money and hassle trying to sue you which would probably cost more.
