Default Difference between mortgage brokers and loan officers

Whats the difference between mortgage brokers and loan officers at a bank? Is it better to go through a bank? Is there more "fees" associated with one and not the other? Will be first time home buyer and need to know the basics to know where I should get started? Thanks to anyone with any helpful inforation.

Default

Mortgage brokers usually scout around to find the best deal at banks or other lending institutions but get (or should) their fees by way of commission from the bank. Invariably it makes no difference if you approach various banks and get your own deal.
