i plan to semi retire at 40 / 41. I wont be loaded, but i can pay the bills, run a car, have some little holidays. No stress, plenty time to enjoy the real things in life. Plan early though and you too can be chilling while others are killing themselves into the 50s and 60s.The trick is where to put your money, property has boomed now, but is still an ok investment provide interest rates dont rocket. Shares dodgy, due to drop in the year or less.

I didn't plan it, it just happened. But when it did, I was initially at a loss for the extremely hectic life suddenly gave way to a placid kind of existence and there was a vacuum. Then I started thinking of all the things I wanted to do but couldn't for lack of time. It took a while for me to list out those things but once I did, I went about them systematically. Now I lead my life at my own pace with enough activity to keep me occupied. Of course, I had planned for my financial needs much ahead of my retirement. I no longer have any regrets.

The only planning I did was to move house, travel, learn new things, take up hobbies I didn't have time for when working, and generally enjoy my freedom. Shame that due to certain people throwing more than one enormous spanner in the works, I haven't managed the first two, but I'm doing my best with the rest, though not quite in the way I had intended. Still, every now and then I think I catch a glimpse of a tiny flicker of light.

Yes. Had nothing after being a single parent, raising three boys. Got downsized. At 52, found a position and moved 2,000 miles. Was able to build a 401K and savings, just retired May 25.
