Default Credit card debt solutions?

I have a credit card that is currently with a collection agency. It began at around $2700--now is just under $4000. I've got no other debt other than student loans I began repaying since graduation--always on time--and another credit card with payments always on time (I'm actually paying that one off and ripping it up--leaving the credit cards to my husband). Anyways, I'm a full-time mom and part time tutor who doesn't make a ton of money. I'd like to make payments on this credit card so that I can get it out of the way--even if it takes a few years. I have no way to make a huge, one time payment and then smaller payments, although I might be able to occasionally make more than an agreed upon monthly payment. What are my options and/or best solutions? I don't want this to develop into a bigger problem than it already has, and I know nothing about debt solutions at all (or laws or anything else). This was one of those dumb-I'm-a-college-student-needing-money-for-tuition situations.I live in Ohio and the account has been delinquent for over two years now. I've never contacted anybody about it via phone or mail. I also don't really want to have to use a Consumer Credit Counselor unless absolutely necessary because I was under the impression these kinds of services are basically filing for bankruptcy which would be dumb for such a small debt.Another thing I know about this debt...it is officially considered a "charge-off." The SOL in Ohio, I think, is like 15 years for a written agreement, which Ohio considers credit cards to be (I "think"). I just want to contact the collector and find out if I can work out a payment plan for this more or less. Is this a possibility? How do I go about doing this?

Consumer Credit Counseling Services is your best bet. They can help you work out a payment plan that will get you paid off and closed down. They'll also help you understand how the system works.
