My husband and I have been seperated for 2 and a half years. We no longer have any joint accounts together. We had always had seperate checking accounts and a vehicle we owed jointly has been sold. We have no "joint" debts. Will getting a divorce effect my credit if there are no joint accounts?

I would have to say no, but if there is any joint accounts or joint debt that you are unaware of then it might. and I wish you good luck on your new life. |

I agree. Divorce would not sever your liability for debt incurred during the marriage. So if something pops up, divorce would not shield you from joint liability. If you have any concerns over any prior items that might remain delinquent, I would suggest that you have your attorney address them in your final marital separation agreement, and incorporated into the divorce decree. |
