Building Credit after BK
Hi All. I am new to this forum, and hope that some of you may be able to help. After a decade long battle with identity theft, my wife and I filed bk because of two creditors that would not budge. Now we are trying to rebuild our credit for a home purchase in the next year or so. In an effort to rebuild credit, we just purchased a car (we desparately needed it anyway), and applied for a credit card. Credit card application was rejected, either because the fraud alert blocked the creditor from seeing our report, or because there was no score available for them to base a decision on. We are in the process of clarifying which. In the process of rebuilding the credit, I still have two creditors on my report. One is in the form of a judgement (one of the identity theft items), and the other is an old auto loan which I paid (and can prove it since all payments were elctronic).
My question is this: Would attempting to remove those two items from the credit report jeopardize in any way, the discharge of the related debt? And, if not, is it even worth worrying about them, or would I get more mileage on my scores by getting a secured credit card from say Orchard and using it for about a year or so?
There are too many facts to list here, but I would be happy to clarify anything if it would help. Any insight you guys have would be extremely helpful. Thanks, D
