I had a settlement offer with Nelson, Hirsh, and Associates. They offered me of 672 on a 960 balance. Prior to reading the forums, I accepted the settlement to resolve the debt. I followed up with them with the following communication: Hello, I have accepted a settlement of $672/$960 to be paid out over 4 months. I would like to offer that I pay the full $960 in one lumpsum payment to your company in return, you update with the three credit bureaus and delete this account completely. They called this morning to say they agreed. I am awaiting this in writing before I pay! |

Great job! Next time, you may want to negotiate a little more. Maybe try $300 dollars and delete. They may jump at the chance. Start really low and try to meet them in the middle.

I will be curious to see if they actually follow up. Being an oral, as opposed to a written, agreement, it is not rock-solid. I hope they are true to their word! You might consider in your letter of payment to them words to the efftect: "Pursuant to our agreement on (date), it is understood by the parties that acceptance of this settlement will be followed by your timely deletion of (items) from my credit file." |
