Default Late on Student Loans - advice?

So, I was 60 days late on a student loan payment (I didn't realized the grace period had ended) and before that I had a sterling credit score. What should I do to get mine back up? I know it takes a while to get things erased from your history

Default Talk to your school's financial aid office

Hi,

That is really unfortunate. My best advice would be to go and talk to your school's financial aid office (that is if you are still a student). They give excellent advice, and are included in your tuition.

If you are not a student any longer (and even if you are), you may want to consider adding a note to your credit report. Some lenders will pay attention to this and some will not, but it is a better solution than nothing at all. The note does not necessarily help you get a good credit score, but it may help you on your credit report. More importantly, it leaves a paper trail of the problem that lenders can take note of.

I hope this helps!

How do you add a note to your report? Do you call one of the bureaus? Reason I'm asking is that I'm looking into buying property but I want my score as high as possible before going through the pre-approval process

You should send a written letter. Perhaps even call them first for general advice, and then send a letter outlining your situation specifically.
