Finally repairing credit, NEED HELP

Hello everyone, I'm happy to have found this site and just have a few questions. I've read and taken in as much info as I could but it's sometimes hard to apply to ones unique situation.

Well anyways I got a copy of my credit report and it's pretty discouraging to say the least. I'm 26 and was never too worried about credit. It was actually good then I got into a bad car accident and it was downhill from there. I just need to know exactly where to start. Here's a quick run down:

Adverse
1. Utility bill-$492 with a date placed for collection of 12/2007
2. Utility bill-$1499 placed for collection 4/2008
3. Dell credit card-$3099 charge off 01/2008
4. Student loan-$7743 placed for collections and wages currently being garnished. Have about 4000 left.
5. Macys credit card-$918 charged off 08/2007
6. Cell phone-$1887 placed for collection 01/2010
7. Insurance-$60 paid collection
8. Medical bill-$320 placed for collection 02/2006
9. Insurance bill-$321 paid collection
10. Item number 2 shows up again with a date of 01/2008.???
Number 11 and 12 is my student loan again but broken down into 2 items. One 2549 and 4361. I don't get this.

Then I have 6 satisfactory accounts that have all been paid off.

I also have a car loan currently open. I had a repo in august but promptly got the car back. So please tell me where should I start. Should I do this myself or hire a credit repair company. All comments and suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

It's up to you where you want to start. Doing it yourself will require hours of learning and researching, but it's very well worth it. The knowledge and experience you will gain will be very helpful. Knowing the credit system is very beneficial.
