Default FTC Phone call regarding Credit Bueaus

I wanted to share this with the rest of you, found it interesting to say the least. I made a phone call to the FTC regarding my results of a dispute with 2 of the credit bureaus and personal information that is reporting on there. Specifically, there are mistakes in name deviations within my report, improper spellings, missing middle name, etc. Also, previous addresses which I found to be my biggest concern. I know that within this forum the angle is to delete this information to improve our chances to have negative information deleted from our reports, and I agree. To a greater extent, there is another issue which is my point on this, identity theft. The last thing I want is debt collectors, companies I have done or not done business with sending things to addresses that I no longer live in. It's a fact that they use this information in our credit reports to reach out to us, for good or bad. I have read numerous posts that the 3 credit bureaus in many cases are not deleting this information, saying it is reported correctly as a previous address, phone number, name use etc.

As I said, I called the FTC and made these points and the rep on the phone said they don't have anything to do with that. That I need to call the credit bureaus directly, the same bureau that ignored my claim and dismissed my plea. Her alternative was to contact the American Bar Association, knowing I would not get anywhere there, I made the call anyway. Obv, they said unless you want to file a law suit against a company, the bureaus in this case, we can only refer you to an attorney. I mentioned being referred to them by the FTC and I was told that it is very common.

So let's see what does the FTC stand for as far as us the consumers? Here is an excerpt from their web page and what they do: "The FTC deals with issues that touch the economic life of every American. It is the only federal agency with both consumer protection and competition jurisdiction in broad sectors of the economy." So where is our protection here?

Sorry for the rant.

Yea, unfortunately it usually takes hundreds, if not thousands of complaints to the FTC before they decide to act on it.

We should start encouraging people to file complaints with them more.

Disputing with states attornies-general is a good idea to. They have to show reasons for you to vote for them At any rate, they often choose that job because they want the governorship next so...complain complain complain. No one got anything don't without action
