Sincerely appreciate all the feedback, will update my situation in about...5-6 weeks (when I should learn more about my disputes). Today I mailed information updates to the credit bureaus, opened a new credit card (and am opening a second on Thursday) which will complete my requests for new credit until we decide to update the car. I'm learning, and preparing to begin disputing withing a week or so.
One thing I would add to Chane's post is that a letter to the creditor themselves stating it is outside the SOL would really work nicely in most instances. The collector is typically very aware of the law in their state and once they know you are educated, it comes back to leverage. What leverage do they have trying to collect a debt that is out of date? They couldn't verify it to the bureaus after that.
