Question Getting Credit Scores out of the 500's

I've read a lot on here before posting. I feel I'm not as bad off as most but I cannot get my credit score to go up.

In the past I had several accounts go into collection, some years late, some disputed that were fruitless to dispute because I did not keep on top of it. Well now I'm married, have kids, and it's time to buy a house and my credit is not there. (Neither is my wife's so I'm not the only one, she had a BK discharged a few years back)

Now everything that was in collections is paid, and shows that on my credit report. I thought that was enough, I was wrong. Can I just send letters to these companies asking them to remove them from my credit report?

I have also bought a car, paid it off, I'm never over my limit on my CC, pay on time, we have furniture we pay on time, and 1 car payment we pay on time, but my score will not get out of the 500s.. What can I do??

No, unfortunately it doesn't work like that. You will have to dispute them all first. Some will get removed, some probably won't. The ones that did not get removed, you can try some other tactics, but the best way to get them removed is by disputing them first.

Start here:

Basic Step by Step Beginner's Guide to Credit Repair

Then, once you get that started, keep reading about other tactics and be ready for the accounts that did not get removed.
