Default Can you have multiple collections for the same account?

I am new to this so please bear with me. I have 13 negs on my EXP CR. I noticed that a few of them are for the same account. For instance, Cash Call shows up as a charge off for 13K and Greater Cal Fin Svcs shows up for 13k was well as a collection account for Cash Call. So I have 2 negs for the same account. GCFS also pulled a hard inq in 03/10. Can they do that? As far as I can remember, they have not contacted me. But then again they may have sent a letter. I really can't remember. Would I send both a DV letter to get the ball rolling? Since they have not sent me anything recently do I send them a DV or a different letter? Thanks in advance for any input.

No you cannot have multiple collections for same account. Start with DV letters to the creditor and disputes with the credit bureaus after you have proof of delivery

One is the OC and one is the JDB. The OC sold the debt to the JDB.

if it was sold then oc needs to be cleared out. If it was assigned then technically both can report, but the oc is still supposed to be "non rated" in the status

I have the same problem. We pulled my husband's report and we have a medical account in collections and there's about 20 different collection reports some for as low as $3, they only go up to $120, but in total it's over $1800. Why aren't they all listed as one collection? Anything I can do?

You probably need to call the collection agency and ask for the date of service and the provider's name. That way you can determine if they are for the same service. Sometimes they are duplicates by mistake.

Yes, You can request Validation of the debt and send that request to the collection agency. Send it certified. Track the delivery and as soon as it is signed for rush a letter to the credit bureaus. Make sure you ask for them to send you copy of your report after they investgate

I'm new to all this, and I'm trying to figure it out, so bear with me

How do I do the debt validation? Do I validate it with the collection agency?

What letter do I send to the CRA?

they are two totally different letters. The first letter to the Collection Agency can be very simple and to the point.
1. Who you are
2. What you are requesting a validation on(account information from credit report)
3. Why you are requesting( account status, wrong account number, wrong balance)
4. Remind them of the FDCPA(fair debt collection practices act) http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/cons...edit/cre27.pdf

5. send it certified, and as soon as it is signed for send off the letter to the credit bureaus

the letter to the credit bureaus, can be very basic as well

1. Who you are
2. What account are you disputing
3. Why are you disputing

With the medical bills, which I remember you stating they totaled $1800, you would want to call the collection agencies and ask about the dates of service and provider names first. If they ask about payment at the time, you want to let them know you just got your credit reports, noticed these items on the report and will get back to them later.

I suggest the phone calls first because it's quicker and if you had insurance coverage when these medical bills occurred, you could call your insurance carrier and ask if they had claims submitted by a certain provider for specific dates of service.

If this information doesn't match then dispute with the Credit Reporting Agencies.
