Default Hospital Bill I did not know I was in collections

Hello everyone,

My ex took our 2 girls to the Hospital I did not know anything until I saw 1 of the bills in his truck with my name but with his address, I called the hospital since this was back in 3/10 they had transfer the account to collections the little one had Medicaid at the time but my other daughter did not I gave all the Medicaid info to the lady at the Hospitals Accounts receivable and one bill for 483.00 got cleared but not the other one for 903.00 I check my Credit report and I have 2 collection 1 for 483.00 and the other one for 200.00 (dont know where they got 200.00 from) I disputed both of the accounts with equifax they came back erasing the one for 200.00 but that the 483.00 was verified of being mine my ex and I do not get alone very good so I know he don't care, I don't know why bills came out with only my name when I was not even in the hospital. What can I do do solve this account. i need it off my credit report.

Can they do that? They Have another addres in they file my ex's not mine that why it took me this long to try to fix it. I just file BK las year in 11/09.

My credit score is at 553.00 before equifax deleted the one collection.

thank you in advance

Araceli

The same thing happened to me. My ex took my son to urgent care and apparently listed me as responsible for all the medical bills, gave them all my info except my phone and addrrss. I never received any bills and only found the debt when I pulled up my credit report. I don't understand how they can do this, the bill is his responsibility too, and I never signed anything stating that I would pay. I made the mistake of disputing it online with the cra a few days later I got an email that it was verified, I'm not even sure hiw that is possible.

I have a hospital charge too. I knew about it, however they stopped sending me notices and I didn't think nothing of it (since I have soo many medical bills from my kiddos) that I noticed they forwarded it to collections. I don't know why they didn't mail or call FIRST. But, it is not the first time and I don't know why they enjoy ruining someone's credit, but apparently they do.

Honestly, if you know you owe - regardless if your ex was involved, etc., etc. just send the hospital a payment (even if only $5.00) and keep sending. (are they not going to accept payment? I don't think so!) I should of done that sooner, but in your case I guess you weren't aware what happened. Anyway, I think if they start collecting, any collections has got to go away and off your report or it will certainly be easier to dispute saying you found out about debt later and he is your proof you're making xxx payments now.

That's just my thoughts. And that is actually what I am going to do.

Good luck!

I don't think that is good advice at all. If you send the hospital 5.00 a month, you will have the collection account on your CR forever!!!!! That won't even cover the interest. The SOL clock starts ticking from your last payment. If you send them a penny, they start the clock all over again. So if you have not paid in 5 years and you make a payment, they can sue you because you re-started the SOL. If you are okay with this why are you here trying to repair your credit? That is how you distroy your credit.

The only bill that appears in my credit is the one for 483.00 thats the one i paid with medicaid to OC but did not know about the pay for delete, I called yesterday morning to the OC tallked to the same person I talked when I just found out about this bills I remember she metioned that she was going to take it off my credit so I decided to cell her and remind her that I need the collection off my credit she put me on hold came back saying the she was with the collection office saying that that was an error then I asked for a letter that they were going to they it off just in case they dont, I dont want to be calling u again < I know u have to deal with with a lot more peolple than me and she said hold down again came back saying that the collection will be the one sending me the letter. I had another bill for 903.00 from the same day she asked me about the one I did not nkow what to say I just said that my ex will be cotacting the collection office then she said ok, but later when I got home I pulled out my credit report from experian and the bill shows as included in BK whan my BK was from 05-09 to 11-09 well nowonder the one doesnt show in any of my reports and the bill was in 03-10
(my other daughter did not qalified for medicaid because I was on unemployment + child support from my previos marriage, only the little 1 qualified til she was 1 year old)

I totally agree with Dan, improving. That is not a good method at all. You may want to rethink that $5 a month method. It's horrible for your credit and your wallet.

Well, it's worked for me in the past.

I guess one thing I didn't notice on this particular one or it did not mention is I failed to assume that it went to a collection agency. My point being - to send payment to Original Creditor. (the hospital)

But, based on their history and it being RECENT and a fairly recent b/k - sure, they can try and get the debt deleted (?) really? Again, I'd still start paying if they want to improve their credit. But, I guess worth a try and dispute. Doubt it will go away though.
