Balance on Charge Off? What is he talking about??

Hi all,

I've been reading on this forum for a couple of months now. I'm in the process of fixing my credit. I have a charge off (personal loan) with a date of first delinquency 11/2003. I called Equifax for another reason (to get my full account numbers) and asked them when this charge off was set to come off my report, with the SOL. The guy on the phone told me that since there is an amount due of $2,217 that the account will remain on my credit report and that the SOL doesn't apply?? Huh? What is he talking about? I told him I was not disputing the account at this time. I was going to be disputing it because I know the date of first delinquency was actually in June 2003 and thus it should be out of the SOL right ? and deleted from my report? Should I still dispute this account?

Just looking for some insight because this guy with his thick accent really confused me.

You don't need your full account numbers to dispute anything and there is really no good reason to call them. Letting them know you're going to dispute something gives them more than 30 days...that's a mistake. It's like letting a guy know you are going to hit him before a fight. Don't tell him, just hit him.

Yes, it should be out of the SOL and not on your report. Disputing it will probably get it removed.
