new here please help

i want to get my score to a 640 to get a house im new at this and i don't know where to start. i took about $1000 and paid about $2500 worth of debt. bad idea i just found out. my TU score is 525. it is shitty. i just don't know where to start. i got with a credit repair specialist and all he did was take my money. after a few threats (not legal one's) i got every penny back. now i got a secured credit card from Cap1 and have been using it for about 2 months and paying off on time. i bought a used car and financed it and paid it off early. just need help on where to go now to raise my score to get my family a home. my total debt is about $10000.
