I need some advise on what to do with a settlement offer. I have a bill that went to collection. The amount on the bill is $539, but I got a offer from the collection agency to settle this account for $139. It's still a couple of years from being out of SOL. What should I do about this? Should I pay the $139 and then dispute it?, or should I dispute it before paying, risking to get sued? Would it help my credit rating to settle this account or would it instead hurt it by re-aging this account. Thankful for any advise regarding this. |

I'm new to this, but I would say the only way I would pay the offer is to have them agree in writing that they agree to remove the record from your credit reports Otherwise then I would attempt this 1-2 punch method! I'm dealing with teh same crap from Sprint, my bill was $569 and they offered to settle for $264, but I'm not paying it unless they agree to do a pay for delete agreement, otherwise I'm just gonna dispute it and see |

If it's on your credit report, you may want to try a pay for delete. If it's not, send them a cease and desist letter. It's past the SOL!!!
