disputing a debt with CA

Can someone tell me the steps involved in disputing a debt to a CA? I want to make sure I take the right steps necessary to try to fight a debt the CA says my daughter owes, which she des not. I believe I read about a 1 2 punch approach, can someone elaborate on that?

Hi Chane, and thanks for your info on the 1-2 punch approach. I know that I have to dispute the debt with all 3 CRA's. The only thing about that, is i don't know what sort of proof will suffice. Basically, the debt I am helping my daughter fight is a debt from a student housing apartment complex. She had no choice but to break the lease after she was physically assaulted in her apartment by her roomates friend. The apartment complex billed her daily late fees and rent for the next 8 months.

What sort of proof, do you think the CRA's would require for a dispute?

Elva, under the FCRA the burden of proof is on the CRAs. You don't have to provide any proof or give any reason. It's usually better not to, because what you provide will be used against you and rarely helps your dispute.
