Settled or Past Due?

Some accounts on my credit report are showing "settled" with a past due amount of $xx.xx..... Really? How can I be past due and yet have already settled an account?

It simply just means that the account was once past due. Have you tried disputing it?

Yes, I've tried disputing it with the credit bureaus. It came back verified. I sent letters to the CA asking for a copy of an agreement or contract and all I got back was a copy of a statement and a letter pretty much saying yes this is yours and if you don't like it, dispute it to the credit bureaus. I just don't know what to do next.

Keep disputing. I would have to see the debt validation letter you sent them, but it sounds like they haven't validated it properly, so if they are still reporting it, they are violating your rights under the FDCPA. You may want to read over that in depth. You can also try a PFD or a 623 dispute with OCs.

You can also try sending a complaint to the FTC. There are many more things you can do.
