Exclamation Personal check to CA?

Why is it so bad to send a personal check to the CAs? Even if you are paying the account off in full?

Yes, I know that making a payment to the CAs will mean that it will show on my credit for 7 more years, but my mortgage lender says that I will be approved for my loan if I pay 2 debts on my credit reports.

My current plan is to send a PFD letter to the CA with payment enclosed. I just wasn't sure why I should be afraid of them having my checking account number.

Any suggestions here?

If you send a personal check, then they have all of your personal information located on that check including your account number and where you bank.
In the event of a default, they know exactly where to go to garnish funds.

(I've also seen where people list SS #s, Driver License #s, and even DOB on a check. That's all the info a thief would need to steal your identity. )

If you want to maintain your privacy, with any creditor, bill collector, etc., send money orders or postal money orders.

Obviously, if I am paying the debts in full, I wouldn't be in default. :p

Says you. You never know if they are going to say otherwise and try to pull something crappy.

Edited to add - Sorry, but I've had it happen that they come back and go, "oh yeah, you owe us for XX amount of extra fees or interest, too."

I agree. CAs can't be trusted. They are miserable bottom feeders who will go out of their way to ruin others lives. They are unethical on so many levels and the only reason they half-way behave nowadays is because of new collection laws and the many lawsuits they've lost.
