Hello everyone! I have one very quick question that I'd appreciate any help on. As a bit of background, I made some poor decisions as a student and ran up 6 or 7 credit cards. Each and every one of them closed by June 2007, and either paid in full or legally settled for less than the full amount. Naturally, those accounts show up as charge offs (4 of them) on each of my credit reports. I now have 2 credit cards that I'm paying down and haven't been late on for over two years, plus an auto loan (again, never late, 1 year old), and student loans from Sallie Mae that aren't up for payment until January. However, those 4 charge offs are negative items and are crippling my score, which should be more healthy (I think) than the 640 or so it hovers around now. What should I do? Should I write to each of those four former creditors? Should I contact the credit agencies as well? I'm actually a lawyer, so I might have some push, but it would be great to hear some thoughts on how I could do this best... |

It's best to contact the CRAs before contacting the creditors. There are a few things you will want to do before you do that. It's all explained here: Basic Step by Step Beginner's Guide to Credit Repair If the CRA verifies them after a few disputes, you can try contacting the creditors with a 623 dispute.
