Default Removing Co-Signer Accounts that Were Never Signed

There is an acct on my wifes CR as a co-signer and she said she never actually signed any docs for her EX. He submitted the app with her name which she never signed.

The acct is reporting 4 charged off acct's from two years ago. Can she send a letter to the OC saying that she never signed for this account and demand they remove it from her CR's?

Again, it has her listed as a co-signer. Having these removed would raise her scores by at least 75-100 pts.

To this day she has NOT spoken with anyone about the acct...

Any precautions???

I believe that the 623 dispute method requires you to dispute it with the CRAs first before you contact the OC. If the CRAs don't remove it, then you can request an investigation, not a verification, with the OC.

Chane, what letter would you send to the CRA's? I am assuming that it should say something to the affect of.... This is not my account and I have never applied for or signed for such account. Please remove immediatley per section 623 ..... of the FCRA etc etc.

Your suggestion on how not to screw this up so it comes back verified and then never comes off? Sample letter?

Thanks,
Flypilot

For the first attempt, I would just say that you would like to dispute the account and have it removed immediately from your credit report. That's it. I wouldn't give detail or a reason or anything.

If that doesn't work you can try disputing it with a reason. But, once you give a reason, you're kind of bound to that reason, ya know? I mean, you can't really change your story. So, if you tried the 2nd option the first time and it came back verified, you don't really have many options.

But, if you give a generic dispute the first time, you keep your options open. Just my opinion.
