Default Incorrect Date to be Removed from Credit Report

I'm hoping someone can lead me in the right direction. January 09 I sold my house in a short sale. I had a first and second mortgage on the house that were both "legally paid off in full for less than the full balance". In July 08 I stopped making my payments on both mortages (below is the payment history from my report for my 2nd mortgage) and the house was sold in January 09. The first mortgage says it is set to be removed from my report in Feb 2015 and the date of status says Jan 2009 (the month it was paid off). I thought negative information stays in your report for 7 years since the last payment or payoff date. This one is only listed to stay on for 6 years. I'm not complaining about that but the second mortgage is where I have a problem.

A few months ago I had a couple items removed from my report by disputing them online. It was easy and someone told me I should try it with these items, so I did. Last month I disputed my second mortgage online and they confirmed the information to be correct. The problem I have now is that they changed my date to have this removed to Jan 2017 and the date of status to 04/2010 (the date of the dispute)! I'm not sure what to do now. It will not let me dispute it online again because it has already been confirmed. Shouldn't the dates for the first and second mortgage to be removed be the same since they were paid off at the same time?

Here's the payment history for the 2nd mortgage. Does this make any sense.

Any advice or response will be helpful.

We strongly advise against disputing anything online. You should always do it in writing for numerous reasons.

Once you've already disputed it online, it's going to be more difficult now, but it's still worth a shot. If you haven't checked it out yet, go here and learn as much as you can:

I would try to dispute it and get it completely removed. If that doesn't work after several attempts, try to at least get them to correct it. Which CRAs are reporting it?

Thanks for your advice. I really appreciate it. I should have visited this forum before doing anything but I did have luck getting about 3 negative closed account removed immediately from my report. That helped a lot but I just have these two short sale mortgage companies that are really bothering me. I thought it would be much more beneficial to do a short sale than foreclose but now I'm not so sure it helped me at all. Anyways, the 2nd mortgage was HSBC.

Thanks again,

Larena

Sorry, the CRA that I disputed with is Experian but I pulled my Equifax report yesterday and it has the same dates.

One more question; are we legally allowed to continually dispute to the CRA when we know the info is accurate? Thanks, once again!

Experian is the toughest CRA to deal with. You can legally dispute anything that may be inaccurate, untimely, misleading, incomplete, ambiguous, unverifiable, or unclear (questionable). If you admit that it is accurate, I will have to tell you no, it's not legal. However, if it is one of the above, dispute away. :D
