Default Duplicate Entries on CR

I have some old student loans I am in the process of trying to get out of Default. I have made arrangements and started paying. They are showing on my credit report in multiple places, the Sallie Mae says closed, transferred to another lender. It is this other lender I am paying. Should I dispute the original Sallie Mae stuff and ask it be removed from my CR for this reason? I am paying the other lender so the debt is being taken care of, are these other entries of the previous, original creditor, hurting me? Gosh, there is just so much to learn.

if the oc has sold the debt to someone else, then a dispute to the cra should get rid of the oc trade line.
whoever your paying, do they own the debt or are they working for sally

On the Sallie Mae entry on my CR it says under "Creditors Statement": Account transferred to another lender, so I am assuming that the other lender owns the account. Would that be a correct assumption or not. If the other lender is working it "for" Sallie Mae then should I still dispute it. I have about a week before I pay for all 3 CRs and start this process in earnest. I am following Trishs guide thread for basic credit repair. I have already opted out, then after I buy these reports , the next step appears to be getting all of my old addresses off of my reports before disputing anything.I am still not certain how to do that one just yet, I am hoping I can do it online, I disputed a couple of claims with my free CR(Experian) which I later found out I should not have done until I get the ones I pay for. This is a long slow process and I am in the beginning stages but I am so happy I found this site. It has been a real blessing for me to do it myself and not have to pay someone to do this for me, who knows, maybe I can turn my knowledge someday into a side line business. It would be a great source of retirement income I think, depending on the laws governing things like this in my area.

yes i would assume the same. and i would follow trish's guide. straighten out all the personal info first, try to get rid of all but your current address this makes it harder for the ca to verify... but keep in mind that getting rid of an address w/ a positive tradeline attached to it my cause you to lose the positive as well.
keep good records, certified return receipt everything

i'm fairly new to the process as well, but i started last yr w/ 7 negatives and i'm down to 3 hopefully 2 after my latest dispute is completed. it is possible!

Thanks for the help and encouragement. I don't have any positives at all right now, I have not had any credit for many years. The truth is, I have been a real deadbeat. BUT, I am going through my credit union where I work to get a $250 secured credit card at 3.499% so that I can start building a positive record. I am paying off student loans to 2 different lenders, and I am going to keep them separate because when they come out of default I will have 2 more open lines of positive credit. One of them is only $4000 so I hope I can pay it off completely to further help my credit instead of rolling it into the $14,000 one. I seem to be making the right steps since I found this site, although I had already planned for that part. This site is helping me get rid of the negatives. I think I had 18, down to 17 on Experian, and once I figure out what is duplicates I will be down even farther I think.
