Collection agency tradeline was deleted from my credit report after 2 dispute letters to CRA. I disputed this account because I had no knowledge of it. I just received a statement from the collection agency today trying to collect. Can they do this? How should I respond? Thanks |

Yes. Because it was taken of your reports doesn't mean you don't owe the debt--unless you really don't or unless it's past the SOL. If you don't owe it, then ask the CA to price you owe it or price you owe the amount they sat you owe. Check and see if they are licenses to collect in ur state. If not, this might be a way to attack back and get then off ur back. Of course, if they are not licensed to collect, it will eventually get sold to another agency and the whole cycle begins again.

I think it's time to send a validation to this colletion agency. If you think this is not yours, then they have to prove that it is. They usually have to go back to the original creditor they purchase it from and show documentation that it is yours. If they can't , then it should go away.

Thank You for the help. Apparently this debt is almost 7 years old from the tradeline so it is out of SOL. I have no idea if this debt is even mine. I will do a debt validation and see how it comes out. Thanks
