Default wrong mailing address

I owed AT&T for about $60. They terminated my contract and charged me an early termination fee of $350. and then sent my account to collection agency. Half a year later it showed up on my account.

I just found out that they have been sending the statements to the wrong address which only include the building #, no apt #. That's why I have never got the statement. When I talked to AT&T about it, they said there is nothing they can do now, since the servicing collection contractor handles it. The collection agency said there is nothing they can do since they don't own the debt.

Now, my question is,

should i dispute it with credit report agency first? and is it likely they verify that the creditor has the wrong info (omit the apt #, which I have my original contract to confirm that I gave them the right address). is it likely the credit report agency going to remove it from my CR?

thanks

They can take it back from the ca,talk to a supervisor at the oc,Since the ca is not the owner what contract do you have with them?Send at&t a check stating this will settle the debt if you remove it from the cra, since they sent the statements to the wrong adderess.

Make sure and update/delete all personal info on your CRs first.
After that, I would dispute it with the CRAs.......see if that gets a delete...If not then you can go the PFD route.

The more info the CRAs have to verify on you, the easier it is to verify TLs.
When they do their investigation, they basically "cross check" the info that the CA/OC provided... name, ss#, address... if they are able to "check off" I believe 3 (or maybe 4) items, they call it good and it's verified.

So say the CA or OC has provided them with the wrong address (the one without the apt#) and they verify that along with your name and social.....it will probably come back verified. BUT if you no longer have that address on there......it makes it harder for the CRA to verify the info...
It just makes your chances for a delete a little better.

Does that make sense?

So not only do you want to delete as many addys as possible.......dispute all name or ss# variations, employment history, spouse, phone numbers......ANYTHING.
If all the CRAs have is your current address and your name......that would be ideal.
*just a note that EX is always a PITA regarding addresses - still......do what you can and dispute as much stuff off as possible.
