Default Is this a decent goodwill letter?

Dear Mr. Struthers:
I am writing this letter to you regarding a credit card account (account #xxxx xxxx xxxx xxxx) that I have maintained in excess of 10 years. Until recently I have maintained my accounts with MBNA/Bank of America perfectly.

I had stopped using the above account some time last year after it was paid off. I came to find out early this year that my wife had been using the card when I received a call from Bank of America saying that the account was past due. Wanting to give her the opportunity to learn from this I put it into her hands to take care of the situation. She contacted card services and made arrangements to make payments and get the account current and up to date.

As it turns out this did not go as planned. The arrangement she thought she had made did not take effect properly because I have two accounts with Bank of America (other account number: xxxx xxxx xxxx xxxx) and that account has always been in good standing. My wife had been making payments that she had arranged on the account but they did not meet the minimum payment required.

After pulling my credit report I decided to get involved. The account is showing as 120 days late and is destroying my otherwise great credit. I have brought the account completely current and plan to pay it off completely over the next year.

This incident has caused me to be denied credit for my daughter’s parent plus loans for college next year. I also had plans on purchasing a condo for her to get residency for next year. As you well know there is no bank (including Bank of America) that would even remotely consider me for a mortgage. I take complete responsibility for the events that have occurred and graciously ask if there is anything that I can do to remedy this situation. Outside of this incident I have had a terrific history with Bank of America. I have always covered my obligations that you have been so generously offered and have greatly appreciated the service that has given to me. I thank you for your time.

Sincerely,

Name

I am sending this to the VP of Bank of Americas Card Services.

Any feedback would be appreciated

So I got a response from bank of america on the letter that I wrote and the lady that I spoke with said she spoke with the reporting department and that there is no way that they can get rid of the lates. Is this true?

How can I go about this?
