OK here is my situation? I received reply from Transunion over the weekend that the item I was disputing is verified? I find this hard to believe because if they would have contact the original creditor they would have "at least" updated the 2 late payment that are on my account that are reported incorrectly and they were not corrected, and the OC would have written me a letter stating the situation in which I did not receive? Now on the verification letter it does state for me to call if I do not agree and said something like will tell me who verified dispute? Now do I call and find out how this was verified or is there another step I should take> God I am frustrated!!!! Any reply would help me..... Sharu |

Hi sharbear. Well, you can try calling them......but it's very unlikely they will tell you how or who they verified it with. I tried that once before and the CSR acted like an idiot even after I told him it was my right to know under the FCRA. They always have canned answers.......they will probably just tell you their procedures. You can also try sending them a PR (procedural request) letter.......but most of the time you get the same canned answer. It is a PITA and about as fun as pulling teeth. The other thing you can do (and will probably get the best results).....is contact the creditor. They have more power to "fix" things with the CRA than we do. So you can either try calling them or you can send them a debt verification letter. Be sure to send it CMRR because you want to be able to track it and see who signed for it. Hopefully that will take care of it for you.

Phoned transunion and spoke with "Sam" about my investigation and whom they contacted (name date etc.) regaurding my dispute,he stated it was done automated like all disputes, but he kindly gave me the number to FTC without me raising hell or even asking, I found this kinda weird but again I am new to this and have never done this, why would he have given me the number to the FTC is what I want to know?

That could just be their procedure. If you were questioning the way and investigation was conducted, they may be trained to do that. Either that or he just didn't want to get yelled at by a consumer....lol....so he just directed you to the FTC so you could file a complaint if you wanted to. I'm sure they have to deal with that a lot.

When you are disputing and your asking for information on how information was received and verified against your report are they not required to give you the name of the person whom verified the information on the other end or is this just a legal way of verifying information, I am not 100% sold that the information was processed correctly and they are not going by my previous dispute 2 months ago?

Well, the thing is.....they have no name. They are doing it all electronically. That's what's so messed up......and that's how incorrect TLs get verified. PR requests don't really work to get info.......they work more as a papertrail to show you tried in case you ever need proof. Usually the response most people get is their automated answer on what their procedures are. If you are positive that a TL is being reported incorrectly and keeps getting verified.......the best thing to do is go directly to the FOI.

Here's a tip. In order to thwart the OCR (Optical Character Recognition) software the bureaus use, when you prepare your dispute letter you can either: 1. Handwrite the letter (make sure it's legible) 2. Vary the font sizes, styles, colors, and italicize a line here and there. The idea is force a live human being to read the letter. |
