is there a specific website or anything i can go to to see if a CA is licensed to collect in my state? (CA) cause i just might be able to fight Portfolio off with this approach! (Hopefully!)

Check with lawdog.com and search by state......you should be able to find it through them.
Either that or you can try googling cali business licensing dept......may be able to find it that way. Some states have an online search/database that you can use.

i found the california database and searched. no records found.

now what can i do?

I just looked and California does not require CAs to be licensed or bonded to collect in your state.

Dispute it with the CRAs or DV them and see if they can validate the debt.

okay. i'm still having the problem with the CRA's too with the identity thing. TU finally put the new address on my report, so thats one down. should i send my info with the DV?

You mean proof of ID? No. I think you've sent enough to prove who you are!
