Default PAID Collection Agency for Medical Bill - Now what?

Hi all. I paid the collection agency (CMRE) for a medical bill in full with interest after being promised a paid for delete. Now they are refusing to delete the account and keep reporting it has paid. What are my options...

From what I understand HIPAA and 1 2 Punch do not work now?

Thanks in advance,
Greg

Hi Greg. Welcome

True, you cannot use HIPAA laws now... a 1 2 punch.....maybe..
I am assuming you didn't get the PFD agreement in writing? Do you remember who you spoke with?

On a paid collection, when you have nothing to lose (since you've paid them off and they can't sue or harass you) I prefer to give them a taste of their own medicine by being a total pain in the ass and calling them as often as I can (hopefully speaking to the same person)......I will stay very polite.....and waste their time....because their time is money. If you can annoy them enough, they will probably cave in and just delete it. But that's just me.

You can also just try disputing it with the CRAs first.

The paid for delete was not in writing and I did a chargeback on my credit card when the CA originally wouldn't delete the mark with the CRA and just kept reporting the account as paid.

The CA then updated the account as unpaid again (because I reversed the payment). I then paid them a second time and they updated the account as paid... back to square one.

Just dispute it. The CA that I was dealing with tried that rubbish on me and it did not work.
