Default Should I just leave this account alone?

I am working on my husbands credit report. He opened an auto loan account in April 2002. The loan was only for 12 months. He had 3 lates in that year and settled for less than the total amount. His report doesn't say when the account was settled or closed. When will this be taken off his report? What should I do with it? We would like to buy a house in about a year or less. Thank you!

Kim

Kim, if you do nothing, it will come off of your report 7 years from the date of the initial missed payment. If you dispute it, it should come off sooner, especially if he's already paid it and it's that old.

I think you should dispute it if it is that old, and is paid off.
