I opened the mail today to find a collection letter for an overdrawn bank account. I rarley use this account or check the balance for that matter. I would like to PFD to get this cleared before it is reported. I have about 10 days to get this taken of. I am confused on who i should be sending the PFD to. The letter is sent by the CA but is asking the payment to be sent to the OC. If it is to the OC the address is local, could I call and get this taken care of promptly. Other concern is, if i pay the OC will the CA still mark the balance at 0 after it is paid to the OC? Any advice and suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance. See attachment for copy of letter. |

Which party, if either, has reported adverse information to the CRAs? PFDs are directed at the deletion of information from your CR. If only the debt collector has reported to the CRA, a PFD to the OC would not be appropriate, as they have would have no credit reporting to delete. If both parties have reported to the CRA, then most choose to send their PFD to the debt collector, as the reporting of a collection is usually more severe than prior reportings made by the OC. Regardless of who you pay, if you pay, both are required to update their reportings to read $0 balance. The debt collector would no longer have a debt upon which to continue their collection activities. |
