Hi! Need a little help on these two items. They both say they've been written off. See the below images. Item 1: still in the hands of the original creditor. The OC is the bank that I have still have accounts with and have a personal relationship with. To settle or not to settle?? Item 2: OC is a old college that i still owe tuition to. the times i've spoke with them they seemed pretty rigid. To settle or not to settle?? What can i hope to achieve? Removal of the items from my CR's? Or just a "paid" status change? Thanks in advance for your help!! |

"Written off" is just another way of saying they charged-off the debt in their internal bookkeeping. Writing off, or charging off the debt, whichever term you prefer, does nothing whatsoever to relieve any obligation on the consumer for the full debt, or restrict the creditor from continuing to attempt collection of the full debt, either themselves, or through a debt collector. It wont prevent a collection being reported on the debt. For all practical intents and purposes, both as to owing the debt and their ability to continue collection, a charge-off changes nothing from the perspective of the consumer. It is, as far as your payment strategy or obligations, the same as if it had never been reported, with the only exception being your possible future attempts to try to get them to delete that prior reporting from your credit report. |
