I have an item on my CR that read like this: Verizon wireless Date opened: 12/2003 Date major delinqunecy first reported: 01/2005 Charge off amount: $1366 Date of first delinquency: 08/2004 Comments: Charged off account Then for the same thing I have this too: Midland Credit Management Date of last payment : 04/2008 Date major delinqunecy first reported: 12/2006 Actual payment amount: $554 Date of first delinquency: 07/2004 Comments: Paid collection The issue I am having is that I recently called Verizon to try and get a good will removal of the tradeline early (it whould be coming off this month) and I was todl that the account was never sold. I settled with Midland and I have a leter from them stating the accout was settle and how much it was setttled for. But did I paid them for an acoun that they did not own? Can I verify that in any way and can I do anything about it now? I appreciate any input or help with this.....Thanks! |

I dont think you have reason for concern. Debt collectors often do not own the debt they are collections upon. The OC can simply assign collection authority to a debt collector without sale of the debt to them. The debt collector is then authorized to accept payment on behalf of the OC. How the OC and debt collector split the proceeds is up to them, and not of concern to the consumer. Both the OC and the debt collector should now, in your CR, have updated the current status to paid, and the balance of debt to $0. If both have done that, then the OC recognized your payment to their agent as satisfaction of the debt. As for the issue of good-will deletions, you have two separate reportings to address. GWs are addressed to the OC that request deletion of their own separate reportings, such as in your case, the charge-off. GWs are addressed to the debt collector that request deletion of their collection reporting. The OC cant delete reportings made by the debt collector, and vice versa. |
