Default CA and medical bill

Hello all, I have had much help from ya'll in fighting CA on my own credit, now my question is for helping my fiance's credit. These forums and all the information in them is fantastic !

I haven't any experience with dealing with medical bills first of all, and I want to make sure I understand the rules and our rights before proceeding. I'll try to relay the story the best I can, though every time she tells me the story I get confused myself

So..... she had insurance that could only be had by being enrolled at a local college. She went to the doctor and now like three years later she finally got the insurance to pay their share of the bill. The insurance company claimed to need this and that and said the school and hospital refused to work with them, long story short after many many many hours on the phone she finally got all the forms the insurance company claimed to need to process the claim ( I still don't know why she had to do THEIR job for them but that is another story.... ) So they finally processed the claim and she found out what part she is responsible for however the collection agency already reported it to the credit bureaus.

So I told her to negotiate removing the bad info from her credit file as part of paying the bill and the CA wasn't very accommodating.

So what other options are there for her ? I think we may have passed the opportunity for debt validation ?

How was she supposed to pay her part of the bill when she didn't know how much she was responsible for because the insurance company dragged their feet on paying their part. ( Basically the CA reported to the CB at the same time the insurance paid out )

Any other options I'm not aware of ? or rights we can pursue ?

Her credit score which we monitor through USAA dropped like 50 points in one month when nothing else had changed !!!

PLEASE HELP ! and thank you very much if you managed to read through all of that

The first thing you should do is dispute it. You can try the 1-2 punch as part of that if you want. There is no such thing as past the time to ask for debt validation. You can ask for it anytime.
