I got in an accident and had to take an ambulance to the hospital. I started paying $50.00/month, but moved and could not find a job in time. They reported me to a collection agency, and when I found a job, I continued my $50.00/month payments to the collection agency. When tax returns came around, I paid off the balance I owed (about $260). When I paid it, the guy I talked to said that because I chose to pay all of it now instead of the $50.00 payments, I received 15% off. I saved $40.00, or so I thought. I just recently checked my credit report, and it has comments saying that the balance was paid in less than full. Isn't this bad? If I had known, I would have paid it in FULL without the 15% off. Is that comment affecting my credit negatively, or is it just a comment? I did not settle, as I was expecting to pay the full amount. What's my next step? Do I contact the collection agency? |

The whole account is negative no matter what the comment says. You need to dispute it with the CRAs to get it removed completely. Basic Step by Step Beginner's Guide to Credit Repair
