Unhappy Settling a debt with a CA

I have recently been contacted by telephone by a CA for an apartment that I rented but had to move out of before the lease was up.

Brief history:

This is the first time I have ever had an unpaid bill in my life! I lost my job and talked to the apartment community manager before I moved out, let them know the situation, they really didn't care of course. They said I owed them approx 2400.00, 3 months rent plus a few fees. they did offer to put me on a payment plan of 400.00 a month until the debt was paid. I did not sign a promise to pay this and actually told her there was no way I could commit to this payment plan, I would just default I had no job.

I called them a couple of times within the two months that followed to see if they would take a lesser amount until I went back to work they declined and told me it was going to collections.

So I am stuck! I do owe them something I'm sure how much is what I am not too sure about. I want to pay them... I cannot pay them, so I certainly will not be able to pay this collection agency. My credit is or was excellent and always has been now its going to be ruined. I don't know how to respond to the CA. I am not trying to get out of paying the debt. Any suggestions?

The longer you take to pay them, the longer it will stay on your credit report.

If you decide not to pay them, they can either take you to court or decide not to collect. If they decide not to collect, it will be on there for 7 years. If you pay it at anytime during those 7 years, it will reset the clock and stay on for 7 more years from the time of last activity.

However, they can only collect on it for as long as your state's SOL allows. If you have the money, I would do a PFD (pay for delete). If you don't have the money, I mean, there's not really anything you can do besides just hope that they don't sue you.

No, I've never heard of Hunter Warfield. You would have to work out a pay for delete. Negotiate an agreement that would say once it's paid off, they will remove it. Always get it in writing.
