There's not much more you can do besides keep disputing. But, the chance of getting it removed after the first couple disputes decreases by a lot. The CA is very interested in getting their money.

The only other thing you can do besides pay it is wait 7 years.

Don't give up on cleaning your credit report. If the agency didn't respond within time allotted by statute, call them on it. A friend who has a credit repair organization disputes the agencies ability to make many of these negative comments on your report. He does this with success for over 18 years.

Your debt has undoubtedly been sold. So stick to your guns and demand verification. I don't know which credit card this was (need more info), but the banks have been selling off billions of dollars in receivables. We've just finished a full investigation into "credit card derivatives" - very similar to mortgages.

You can go online to the Securities & Exchange Commission Website and look for a form 8K, for the particular bank. This form outlines the sales of receivables (you may have to wade through a bunch of forms). You can also google and look for an annual report or prospectus outlining the sale of the accounts - and use that as leverage to get the agency to clean up your report as they should.

So on Friday I got a letter from MCM stating they were having my debt deleted from my credit reports. THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR HELP! I was so relieved, and happy, and everything else. Now only have one more to go.
