"3 second pause" from ca's on voicemails?

Whats with this "3 second pause" from ca's on voicemails?

I have a few medical collections and they say this:

This call is intended for John Smith. If you are not John Smith please hang up. There will now be a 3 second pause before continuing this message.


So if you continue to listen you are John Smith and they now have verification they have contacted you?

Who knows about this?

That's very weird. Never heard of anything like that.

I get a call like this about 1 time a week, Any more I hang up before the 3 seconds are up, anyone know what to do for us?
