Cool after dispute account sent to collections

Just wanted to post something real interesting. I pulled my credit report the other day and noticed that I had a balance due for time warner cable in Milwaukee wi even though I have never lived in Wisconsin and the time period they said that the account was established I was deployed to Iraq.

So I called Time Warner they wanted me to send in a copy of my ss card, Id and a copy of my orders! Which I think is ridiculious.

I just got notified by the credit bureau that the account has now been sent to a collection agency!

I called them they want a police report a copy of my drivers license and a utility bill to show where I was a resident at during that time!

It is crazy that soon as I disputed Time Warner that they would send it to collections!

What do you think the next step I should do to resolve the issue!
Since now its showing as a new collection account that just started this month!

Default I know this post is old

I realize this is an old post but I wanted to respond with some info just in case someone else comes across this.

NEVER EVER DO THIS!!! Never send them any copy of your ID!

This happened to me. Twice. A gas bill in Texas and I never lived there and then a TMobile account opened in Denver, CO where I also never lived.

Of course this was identity theft. When I got the bill from the gas company I called them and then filed a police report. That report was sent to them and the information was removed.....just to re-appear a few months ago.

TMobile is a different story because I only learned of this when I pulled my credit report last summer. I hadn't done this in 3 years. My bad.

The CA for TMobile also requested I send them a copy of my ss card, my DL# and other items. Ain't happening.

NEVER EVER DO THIS!!! They WILL use it against you and they WILL say you provided these when you opened the account and they took copies of them at that time! DO NOT EVER GIVE THEM ANYTHING outside of a police report which of course you should never file unless you know 100% that the account is NOT yours and was opened fraudulently.

So a few days after I received the request for personal copies, I got a "courtesy call" (LMAO) from the CA asking if I got their request and stating they could get the CL removed as soon as I identify myself with the id and documents. LIE!

I played with the guy for a few minutes, fully understood that I was being recorded. He resorted to screaming at me at the top of his lungs and of course stating they would sue me and win blah blah. I remained calm and told him I realized that he works on commission and being right before Christmas things must be tough. He offered to settle for $300 on a balance of $760 and I told him I wouldn't settle for $1 because the account is NOT mine.

Luckily before I disputed this with the CRA, I had the bogus addresses deleted.

The CA dude told me the account was opened with my DL and they have a copy of it. He was lying because this is precisely why they wanted me to send them a copy. To use it against me.

There are SO many good reasons to never ever ever send copies of your personal information to any CA and I can't think of one reason where it would serve you best to do so.

In fact with one credit card their form of validation was stating that I tried to make a payment by phone on XX/XXX date. RIGHT! I was in the hospital giving birth to twins so I highly doubt I was on the phone making payments.

The Tmobile CA used this too, that I had attempted to make payments by phone but the payments were declined. I told them that is their burden of proof, to prove the phone number used to submit the payment as well as the credit card or bank account that was declined and who those belonged to.
