me find collection agency harrasment laws? i believe i am being harrased by a collection agency. they are calling up to 5 times a day, with phone calls as late as nine pm. ive already set up a payment plan with them yet they continue to call. i live in the state of wisconsin, but i cant seem to locate state specific laws on this type of situation. can anyone help me find the WISCONSIN state specific laws about being harassed by a collection agency PLEASE?i know its not illigal for them to want the money, but i am CERTAIN there are guidelines stipulateing when and how often they can call. five times a day is a little exessive, espcially since i have a payment schedule set up, and explained this all in full to two of the people who called me

i know it sucks, but there's really nothing you can do about it. It is not against the law to want money that is owed. They will keep calling until the debt is paid off. my advice to you is to see if you can have their phone # blocked, either that or, take your phone off the hook at night. Good Luck!, your gonna need it.

I believe that the latest they can call you is 8pm. There is a federal agency that regulates this stuff, it might be the FCC, but not sure. All I can tell you is to narrow your searches to federal agencies, go to government sites.

Federal law. Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.Contact your local bar assoc. and ask to be referred to the pro bono program. It gives you one free visit of about half hour with an attorney. Try and get one that is conversant in debtor-creditor law. There may be state law that is more helpful.http://www.expertlaw.com/library/con...ollection.html |

Google your State Comptrollers office and see if you can narrow it down. There are specific laws concerning the hours they call you and information given to others about your debts etc...! I believe it is against the law to call you at work too. If at best, tell whoever is calling you that you are going to report them to the SCO! Good luck and God Bless!
