have the collection agency they contracted with off my back? I'd rather deal with the original creditor. The collection agency said it would be 5 weeks before the account is cleared with them. but by that time they will have reported me to the credit bureau. If i pay it at the end of the month can they still screw me.

It really depends on the original creditor. Sometimes they wash their hands of it and say "it's in colections now, deal with them" but sometimes they will take the payment from you. if they take your payment, you need to make sure you get a paid or settled in full letter for your records, and make sure you ask the original creditor to call the collection agency to report the account paid, so it can be removed from their office, and you stop getting calls and letters. I would still fax a copy of the paid in full letter to the collection agency as soon as you get it from the original creditor, so you know they have been made aware that the account is paid.

It depends on how old the account is that your are refer about because after a while the account longer show up in the original creditors system.
